KTB And TRA Join Forces To Guarantee Top-notch Standards Across Kenya’s Hidden Gems
As Kenya sets its sights on a brighter, more sustainable tourism future, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is taking bold steps to elevate the visitor experience nationwide. KTB, in partnership with the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA), is launching a national classification exercise in February 2025 that will revolutionize the way travellers experience Kenya, guaranteeing top-notch quality and helping visitors make well-informed choices when exploring Kenya’s iconic landscapes and hidden gems.
KTB CEO June Chepkemei highlighted this initiative as part of a broader mission to enrich Kenya’s tourism offerings. “Kenya’s North Rift region, while renowned for its world-famous high-altitude athletes, holds far more for those who venture into its historic, cultural, and wildlife-rich landscapes,” Chepkemei explained. The North Rift Tourism Circuit offers visitors a gateway to diverse experiences, from heritage trails to outdoor adventure. Chepkemei notes that these efforts will attract more tourists, both locally and internationally, creating a more inclusive and economically vibrant tourism sector across Kenya.
Aligned with these initiatives, the TRA’s Director General, Norbert Talam, confirmed that the classification exercise follows strict governmental standards, helping operators in Kenya’s North Rift region and beyond to ensure the highest service quality. Talam further explained that an accreditation process covering 5,000 beds in the North Rift region is nearing completion, setting the stage for the upcoming classification. By establishing clear benchmarks, this nationwide effort underscores Kenya’s commitment to excellence, ensuring travelers can trust and rely on the quality of tourism services across the country.
This initiative also fosters a significant environmental impact through the ‘One Tourist, One Tree’ project, a sustainability effort encouraging every traveler to plant a tree during their visit, reinforcing Kenya’s dedication to preserving its natural heritage.
Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, an ardent supporter of this development, shared how these tourism circuits will drive job creation for young people in the North Rift region and bring new business opportunities that will bolster the local economy. “We have tremendous potential here,” she noted, “and tourism expansion will fuel growth, create jobs, and showcase our rich regional diversity to the world.”
KTB envisions Kenya’s tourism circuits as an inviting roadmap for both domestic and international tourists, guiding them through Kenya’s themed travel routes and fostering immersive experiences that celebrate the unique diversity of each region. With KTB’s support in branding, packaging, and promoting these destinations, travellers are set to encounter Kenya in a whole new way, with every circuit telling a story, offering unforgettable memories, and contributing to the country’s sustainable future.
