MKTE Launch 001

Building Partnerships And Driving Growth In Kenya’s Tourism Sector

Mark your calendars for October 2nd – 4th, 2024, as the highly anticipated Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) returns to the iconic Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, business partnerships, and showcasing Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings. With an expected attendance of over 5,000 delegates and 160 hosted buyers from around the globe, MKTE 2024 is set to elevate Kenya’s tourism sector to new heights.

Tourism PS John Ololtuaa underscores the significance of MKTE in propelling local small and medium travel enterprises onto the global stage. He highlights that more than 60% of the exhibitors are local businesses that otherwise couldn’t afford to participate in international expos. This unique platform has consistently created vital linkages between local tourism enterprises and international markets, fostering exponential growth and diversification in Kenya’s tourism products. “MKTE has been instrumental in creating partnerships that have opened up new opportunities, driving the growth of local businesses in the tourism value chain,” says PS Ololtuaa.

The 14th edition of MKTE is poised to build on the successes of previous years, following a triumphant joint expo with the East African Regional Tourism Expo (EARTE) in 2023. With the aim of attracting new buyers from emerging markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Australia, alongside key markets in Europe and Africa, MKTE is expanding its reach and enhancing Kenya’s global tourism footprint.

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO June Chepkemei expressed optimism about the 2024 edition, emphasizing MKTE’s role as an affordable and consistent platform for Kenyan travel trade and county governments to access international suppliers and markets. “This year, we are increasing hosted buyers from new source markets in line with our destination diversification strategy,” Chepkemei stated, reinforcing KTB’s commitment to achieving the targeted 3 million visitors by the end of 2024.

MKTE is not only about international networking but also a rallying call to promote domestic tourism. PS Ololtuaa urges stakeholders to harness the untapped potential within Kenya, encouraging citizens to explore the high-quality experiences and facilities available right at home. By focusing on both international and domestic tourism, MKTE aims to create a thriving, inclusive tourism industry. Go Places Group is thrilled and honoured to team up with MKTE for the exciting Magical Kenya Travel Expo journey!
