A Strategic Alliance Boosting Freighter Operations Across Europe, Africa, And Beyond
Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, in collaboration with Liege Airport, proudly marked 17 years of a successful partnership that has transformed global cargo logistics. This strategic alliance, pivotal in connecting Europe to Africa and beyond, continues to elevate both entities as leaders in the air cargo industry. Over the past 17 years, Ethiopian Cargo has been instrumental in establishing Liege Airport as a premier cargo hub in Europe. In 2023 alone, Ethiopian Cargo uplifted approximately 160,000 tons of goods from Liege, ensuring efficient and reliable transportation across continents.
Celebrating this monumental partnership, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, emphasized, “This partnership has been instrumental in Ethiopian Cargo’s success as a global leader in the air cargo industry. Liege Airport provides us with a strategic location and world-class infrastructure, enabling us to offer our customers seamless and efficient cargo solutions. We are grateful to the management of Liege Airport and our stakeholders for their unwavering support over the past 17 years.”
Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are delighted with our long-term partnership with Ethiopian Cargo. Ethiopian is a magnificent success story and continues to grow here. The company links different continents with a fleet of state-of-the-art aircraft. Their Boeing 777s, averaging an age of 7 years, are among the most efficient aircraft in terms of noise and environmental performance. We are honoured by Ethiopian’s confidence in Liege Airport and will always be at their side to support their development.”
The mutual benefits of this partnership are evident in the growth and development of both organizations. Ethiopian Cargo’s expansive network and operational prowess, combined with Liege Airport’s modern infrastructure and efficient processes, have created a highly effective and reliable cargo hub. Since 2007, Ethiopian Cargo has operated numerous flights to and from Liege Airport, maintaining a vigorous schedule of approximately six freighter flights daily from its hub in Addis Ababa and other origins, using B777-200F and B767-300F aircraft.
Ethiopian Cargo’s extensive network spans over 135 international destinations, including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The company’s commitment to expansion is unwavering. As of May 2024, Ethiopian Cargo added Hyderabad and Ahmedabad from India to its burgeoning network, bringing the total number of dedicated freighter destinations to 70. By 2035, Ethiopian Cargo envisions expanding to 90 dedicated freighter destinations, supported by a fleet of 37 dedicated freighters, solidifying its status as a global leader in the air cargo industry.
This 17-year partnership between Ethiopian Cargo and Liege Airport stands as a testament to their shared vision of enhancing global logistics and connectivity. Together, they continue to revolutionize the air cargo industry, offering unparalleled service and efficiency to customers worldwide.
