Team Up, Get Muddy, And Make Every Step Count For Kenya’s Forest Restoration

Get ready to lace up, team up, and make a difference at this year’s Forest Challenge, happening on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the breathtaking Kareita Forest in the Aberdares. Organized by the East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) in partnership with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kijabe Environment Volunteers (KENVO), this adrenaline-packed event blends adventure with purpose, proving that conservation can be both impactful and fun!

With forestry contributing 3.6% to Kenya’s GDP and supporting over 700,000 jobs in the charcoal industry, forests are the backbone of livelihoods and biodiversity. Yet, Kenya has lost more than 50,700 hectares of forest between 2002 and 2022. The Forest Challenge aims to reverse this by mobilizing resources to restore at least 600 hectares of degraded forest landscapes by 2030, planting over 600,000 trees and nurturing 60,000 indigenous trees annually.

Beyond the muddy races and thrilling team obstacles, every step taken in Kareita Forest contributes to a greener, more sustainable Kenya. The funds raised support long-term restoration, conservation education, and community empowerment, ensuring thriving landscapes that sustain people, prosperity, and biodiversity.

So gather your team, embrace the challenge, and become a hero for our forests. Because when the forest thrives, we all thrive.
