Marangu day trip activities
Marangu day trip is a full day walk around Marangu village. It is about 40 kilometers from Moshi town. Marangu village hosts the headquarter of Kilimanjaro National Park. It is here where Kilimanjaro climbers via the Marangu route come to start their hike. At Marangu village, you will have plenty of activities to do such as testing local food and beer. You can enjoy a waterfall, take a Chagga historical tour, visit local blacksmiths, and make coffee. You definitely have to put the Marangu day trip on your list of things to do in Moshi.
Kikuletwa Hot Springs
Kikuletwa Hot Springs also known as Chemka Hot Springs is a beautiful place to relax, swim and enjoy fish massage. Kikuletwa hot springs have crystal clear, turquoise water which will surely refresh your body. The water is however not truly hot as the name suggests. Rather it is very refreshing, coming from Mount Kilimanjaro. A trip to Kikuletwa Hot Springs can be a couple of hours or a full day depending on what you wish to do. There are several local food merchants. You may choose to try some local meals. People normally sit down nearby the springs and have a picnic lunch.
Visit Lake Chala
Lake Chala is located an hour’s drive from Moshi town. Lake Chala offers tranquility and beautiful views. There are several activities you can do at Lake Chala such as kayaking, hiking, taking a picnic lunch, and birding. Swimming and fishing are not allowed in Lake Chala. The lake is about 8 kilometers from the Tanzania – Kenya border. The depth of Lake Chala is between 70 to 90cm. It is surrounded by almost vertical walls as high as 100m. During the year, depending on the season, the color of the water of this beautiful lake changes from turquoise, and deep blue to green. The lake is supplied via underwater streams from Mt. Kilimanjaro. It drains again into neighboring Lake Jipe via underground tunnels. On a clear day, you can see Mount Kilimanjaro from here. Lake Chala is close to Kenya’s Tsavo National Park. For this reason, sometimes you might be able to see elephants that migrate back and forth between Tanzania and Kenya. Learn more here about Lake Chala as one of the
things to do while you are in Moshi.

You will have a chance to make coffee just like the Chaggas do. You will get a chance to learn about coffee farming, the biggest economic activity in the area.
