Attend The Seventh Edition Of The Italian Cuisine Week The Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World is a worldwide initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation aimed at promoting Italian food and wine tradition, as distinctive traits of Italian identity and culture, fostering also people-to-people relations as well as mutual enrichment. The seventh edition of this culinary festival, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy, will take place from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th November 2022 and will focus on “Conviviality, Sustainability, and Innovation: the ingredients of the Italian cuisine for people’s health and the safeguard of the planet”. To be defined sustainable, in fact, food must have a low environmental impact; enhance local characteristics and traditions, without compromising the ability of future generations to enjoy it. The Mediterranean Diet, with its care for rituals, symbols, respect for seasonal rhythms as well as commonality, is the epitome of a sustainable and balanced diet, recognized by UNESCO within the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Italian cuisine stands out as one of the most celebrated example of the Mediterranean Diet in the world. It is built on twofold attention: for the products, as originating from excellent knowledge and respect for nature and biodiversity; for the processes, entailing craftsmanship, training and touch of Italian “joy of life”. With this in mind, the Embassy of Italy in Nairobi and the Italian Institute for Culture are organizing the 2022 edition, in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency. It will feature activities focusing on Italian culture and its famous cuisine as vehicles of exchange and sharing to communicate new experiences, learning opportunities and to explore commonalities between Italy and Kenya. The special guest of the Week will be the Italian Chef Giuseppe Geraci, which restaurant is included among the best Italian restaurants according to the famous “Gambero Rosso” guide, the most renowned Italian food and wine magazine. As from Sunday 13th until Sunday 20th November, the program is filled with in-presence and online events and initiatives. They vary from scientific talks through podcasts to the symposium on “Conviviality and Innovation: the Ingredients for a Sustainable & Healthy Diet” at the Kenya Nutritionist and Dietitians Institute on 14th of November. The exclusive Master Classes by Chef Geraci will be the occasion for upcoming chefs from the Kenya Utalii College to perfect their art (14th -15th November), as well as for professionals in refining their skills during the “Chef to Chefs: Cooking Master Class” (16th November). A fine dining experience will be organized at the Capital Club on 17th November, when Chef Geraci will bring us through a symphony of harmonious scents to an extraordinary journey for the palates. A unique photographic exhibition will be unveiled at Nairobi Street Kitchen “The Magic Yeast. It’s never as IT seems” (16th-30th November), where through the inverted color technique the public can appreciate the tradition of Italian cuisine in its originality and unicity. It will be aperitif time on Friday 18th November featuring Chic Italian Street Food at “Taverna Italia” (Christmas Craft Fair, Marula Manor- Nairobi), as well as on Saturday 19th November in Mombasa (KSPCA Christmas Craft Fair, Bahari Beach Hotel). Pizza Masterclass for kids will be held in Nairobi (13th November) and Mombasa (20th November), triggering the future generations with the essence of Italian conviviality and tradition: homemade, which endures fast food and globalization. Throughout the Week, the contest “Find the Best Tiramisù in town, Taste, Click and Vote IT” will cheer up Nairobi. Guests can enjoy a complementary Tiramisù after ordering a main dish and vote online for the most iconic Italian dessert among the participating restaurants. On the coast, you will be inspired by the #italiantaste when having a ride on a Tuk Tuk in Watamu and Malindi, through images displayed on the popular transports.
