Atta – African Travel & Tourism Association facilitated a breakfast meeting in honour of Kenya’s Deputy President Dr William Ruto on Friday 8th February at Marriott Grosvenor House London. James Haigh, Elewana’s Director of Sales and Marketing, who was recently appointed to the ATTA Advisory Board was a part of the breakfast and shared the message that the Deputy President spoke of during the Conference: “We are promoting Kenya’s tourism products to ensure the country is a premier destination for travel, leisure and cuisine. Developing infrastructure, especially in public spaces, bolstering security and granting tourist visas will enable us showcase our wildlife and cultural offerings; preserve and revitalise historical sites; diversify income streams; advance economy of host communities and support the hospitality industry”
KQ Pilot Who Made Kenya’s First Direct Flight To New York Retires After 42 Years of Service
Captain Joseph Kinuthia made his last flight to New York on Tuesday, February 19 – The 66-year-old retired from the national carrier having clocked over 24,000 flight hours – He was the senior most pilot in Kenya Airways having started his career in 1978 Celebrated Kenyan Captain Joseph Kinuthia has made his last flight with the national carrier after serving Kenya Airways (KQ) for 42 years.
Kinuthia who first hit the headlines during the country’s inaugural direct flight to New York on Sunday, October 28, 2018, made his last flight on Tuesday, February 20.
According to KTN News, Kinuthia’s plane landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport amid pomp and colour as the carrier held a farewell party in his honour. The 66-year-old thanked KQ for giving him such a rare opportunity to serve as a captain having cumulatively clocked over 24,000 flight hours which is equivalent to 8 years on air. “I feel delighted and happy that the company did what it has done for me not only today but for the last 42 years. We have had a very good working relationship with the company, I have been very comfortable working for KQ and I hope they have been happy working with me,” said Kinuthia.

Kenya Set To Host French President Macron Next Month
French President Emmanuel Macron will make a two-day State visit to Kenya mid next month.
French Ambassador Aline Kuster-Menager, today confirmed that the French President will visit the country when she paid a courtesy call on President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.
President Kenyatta said he looked forward to hosting the French President, saying he expects the visit to break new ground in the bilateral relations between Kenya and France.
“Traditionally, Kenya and France enjoy strong bilateral ties and I am pleased that we’ve continued to deepen the relations. I look forward to the visit by President Macron,” President Kenyatta said.
During President Macron’s visit, Kenya and France are expected to sign several agreements and MoUs covering various subjects of mutual interest between the two countries.
The proposed rapid transit train service between Nairobi Central Business District and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is among projects expected to feature prominently when President Kenyatta hosts the French leader in Nairobi.
