The Safari Checklist With Go Places
Amazing scenery, high temperatures, unique wildlife, rough terrain, and breathtakingly raw landscapes are some of the things one expects to find during a safari. Early preparations and tweaks can ultimately make your safari stress free, easy and adventurous. Armed with the right package including the right clothes, tools, and amenities, you are guaranteed an adventure of a lifetime.
Comfort Is Key
Safaris are prone to the occasional drastic weather changes. With potential chilly mornings and evenings ahead, you would be wise to pack some functional but light cover-ups and sweaters which are not too heavy. Long sleeved and collared t-shirts are recommended to protect you from excessive exposure to the sun and from potential bugs. A pair of safari trousers that zip off at the knees are very handy because you can easily remove the lower part should the weather get too hot. Ensure that you only pack clothes and shoes which guarantee you easy mobility and adaptability to the places you are about to visit – especially when it comes to walking/hiking boots. Similarly, pick neutral tones over brighter shades for optimum camouflage while in the bush.
Safety First
Safety is a paramount consideration. Most camps and safari vehicles have first aid kits but it’s always a good idea to bring your own small supply of hygiene and health essentials. Mosquito repellants, prescribed painkillers, sunscreen & after-sun cream, antiseptic gel and personal toiletries are must-have items. Also if you are under medication, it’s important to carry them with you and to take them when required.
Electronic Devices
You need to create memories during safaris because some experiences happen once in a lifetime. A safari is incomplete without a camera to capture those magical scenes. Remember to bring extra memory cards, batteries, and a charger. A pair of binoculars is essential for close-ups during your wildlife viewing. Binoculars with x8 or x10 magnification are highly recommended. Do not forget to bring a flashlight, mobile phone, iPad or tablet containing your favorite e-books, photos, and handy travel apps.
Downtime Tools
It never hurts to have an interesting book to read when traveling. We recommend a travel diary or journal in order to document each magical moment. You will see and experience so much in such a short period of time on safari, that the only way to maintain a good record of it will be to write it down over a quiet drink later, back at your camp. Journaling requires discipline, but doing it will be invaluable. For the quieter hours in between game drives and excursions, it can’t hurt to peak into a good book.
