The King Of Serengeti Last Roar – Bob Jr With Nyange Adventures
This article is inspired by Bob Jr (also known as The King of Serengeti), who died on March 11, 2023, while fighting with three young male Lions over territory.
Lions are often referred to as the Kings of the Jungle but few of us truly understand why. They are apex predators that rule the pride of lions and can cover up to 200 square kilometers in some areas where food is in short supply. In the Serengeti, pride can cover up to 50 square kilometers.
Due to their enormous sizes and ferocious nature, no other predator has ever attempted to hunt a lion. Other predators may attempt to subdue one another, though.
Because their only responsibility is to defend their pride from other apex predators, male lions in the pride do not hunt. They establish the boundaries of their respective territories and defend them from other Lions and other predators.
The King of the Serengeti was born in the Namiri plains in 2010 to Bob Marley, the father of Bob Marley Jr., another majestic lion, and his brother Ziggy Marley, who ruled over their pride with the same ferocity as Bob Jr. did.
In 2014, he founded his Coalition after being driven out of the pride along with four of his brothers who were also young lions. They ruled the Namiri Plains until other lions hunted them down and killed them, but Bob Jr. was able to flee. Later years saw him traveling close to Ngorongoro with two lionesses until he later returned and reclaimed his territory.
With the aid of his recently discovered brother Marley (also known as Tryggve), he ruled the Namiri Plains for almost 7 years. It was long believed that Bob Jr. was grooming Marley to succeed him as king when he passed away.
Visitors to the Serengeti who have seen Bob Jr. can attest to his beauty and tranquility, but these qualities do not lessen his imposing presence and fierce nature. It is extremely uncommon for a male lion to reach the age of 12 because they typically die young as a result of protracted territorial conflicts. This fact can attest that Bob Jr must have been a force when it came to fights.
On 11th March 2023, the world’s Wildlife Community said goodbye to Bob Jr. after every extensive fight with three young males who were actually scouting his territory for over three months. They cornered him and brutally killed him. The fight which took hours saw this majestic King of Serengeti perish in the most brutal way possible.
His brother Ziggy (Tryggve) has not been seen for some time and is thought to be dead.
