The New Career Woman Against Gender-Based Abuse In Offices
It is obvious for a woman in African society today to be viewed as tough and arrogant as a way to prove that women have evolved in the most unwanted ways. However, some women are more reserved and peaceful. They are not loud and bold. They struggle to know and communicate what they want. Society would love to call them naïve or immature.
In as much as women have evolved some men have taken advantage of women and harassed them physically, emotionally, or sexually, especially in workplaces. Women have continued to be sexually abused at their workplaces.
Sexual abuse has become rampant in offices, be it academic centers, work offices, or even managing houses. Women in careers who are deemed to be bolder, more intelligent, and strong-willed are the most affected when it comes to sexual harassment. With the rise of the economy and cost of living women have found it fit to sleep with men in positions so that they can get what they think they deserve.
Sexual harassment has taken away the joy of being a woman and has made many women devalue their bodies.
Sexual Harassment at workplaces can be as little as:
- Being touched inappropriately: This means a man at the workplace might always be coming to touch her face, holding parts of her body inappropriately. This is usually uncomfortable for the lady and it reduces her core confidence in her body.
- Pushing and holding her tightly: This is the most traumatizing aspect of sexual abuse. This is because it makes her feel helpless and weak.
- The worst part of abuse is the sexual intercourse that comes with it: Women at workplaces have been commanded to sleep with men in high positions, to get jobs, higher pay, promotion or even to get her monthly salary even after doing her work.
However, with time women have become open to this topic and have realized that they deserve better treatment from colleagues and their bosses.
Opportunities at workplaces have been offered to women and most men have become aware of the potential of women to work well and this has reduced sexual harassment.
Hats off to the women that have successfully declared their stand at their workplaces and they have been a voice for the weak, standing up for their rights and ensuring justice has been established for those that have been affected.
Today, women are empowered to fight for their dignity, and respect and they are urged to continue enriching their skills at work for this is the best way to win high pay, work, or promotions.
