Taste, Vote & Celebrate, Thailand’s Culinary Heritage Takes Over East Africa

A Taste Of Thailand In The Heart Of East Africa This August

August has never tasted better. Across Nairobi and East Africa, something truly special is unfolding — a vibrant, flavour-filled celebration of Thai culture and cuisine that’s stirring up more than just appetites. Thai SELECT Month, now in full swing, is more than a culinary event; it’s a cultural showcase bringing together food lovers, hospitality professionals, and dignitaries for an unforgettable journey through the heart of Thailand, all without leaving the region.

From sizzling street-food classics to refined royal dishes, Thai SELECT Month invites diners to savour Thailand’s world-famous cuisine through curated menus at Thai SELECT-certified restaurants across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. These establishments have been carefully selected by Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce for their authenticity, culinary excellence, and warm Thai hospitality. The initiative encourages guests to taste, vote, and win — all while experiencing a truly immersive and authentic Thai dining adventure.

Participating restaurants include:

Kenya – Thai Chi (Sarova Stanley), Thai Chi 102 (Lavington), Bang Bang Thai Kitchen (Village Market), Herbs & Spices Restaurant (Nairobi Serena Hotel), and The Aviary Rooftop Cocktail Lounge (Dusit Princess Hotel, Westlands)

Tanzania – Thai Kani Restaurant (Dar es Salaam) and Lotus Thai Cuisine & Coffee Shop (Arusha)

Uganda – Entebbe Palm Hotel (Entebbe) and Bangkok Thai Cuisine (Kampala).

One of the most memorable highlights of the month took place on August 13th at the serene Thai Chi by Sarova in Lavington, Nairobi. The occasion? The Queen Mother’s Day & Thai SELECT Celebration Luncheon, held in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, whose birthday on August 12 is celebrated across Thailand as Mother’s Day. The event was a feast for the senses, featuring exquisite jasmine floral décor, a one-day-only royal-inspired Thai menu, and an atmosphere rich in tradition, elegance, and cultural pride.

The luncheon brought together a distinguished gathering of guests including H.E. Ms. Morakot, Thai Ambassador to Kenya; H.E. Mr. Alexander McDonald, Ambassador of Barbados to Kenya; his wife, Ms. Selena McDonald; Ms. Magline Jeruto, Assistant Deputy Director of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB); representatives from the Office of Commercial Affairs (OCA); and prominent figures from the East African hospitality industry. The presence of such notable individuals underscored the importance of Thai SELECT Month not just as a dining initiative, but as a strategic platform for cultural diplomacy and international collaboration.

Behind this powerful campaign is Go Places PR & Events Division, the driving force responsible for bringing Thai SELECT Month to life across East Africa. With a stellar track record in cultural programming, digital marketing, and lifestyle event management, Go Places has worked closely with the Royal Thai Embassy and OCA to ensure every detail of the campaign reflects Thailand’s rich heritage and dedication to authenticity. Whether you’re in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Kampala, or Entebbe, Thai SELECT Month invites you to indulge your senses, experience something extraordinary, and be part of a celebration where food meets diplomacy, culture meets connection, and every plate tells a story. Visit a Thai SELECT-certified restaurant, taste the difference, vote for your favourite, and discover why August truly belongs to Thailand in East Africa.
