African Tourism Innovators Invited To Showcase Impactful Sustainability Solutions On A Global Stage
The race to spotlight Africa’s most impactful sustainability champions in tourism has officially begun. The prestigious ATTA® for Action Awards 2026, organized by the African Travel and Tourism Association, are now open for entries, inviting tourism businesses and innovators across the continent to showcase initiatives that are transforming responsible travel from theory into measurable impact.

Now in their third year, the awards have rapidly grown into a respected industry benchmark, recognizing organizations that go beyond simply promoting sustainability to actually embedding it into their operations and communities. As global demand grows for responsible travel experiences, these awards celebrate tourism businesses that are actively shaping a regenerative future for Africa’s travel industry.
The 2026 edition will feature ten established categories covering a wide spectrum of sustainability efforts, including climate innovation, marine conservation, community empowerment, and ethical storytelling. By maintaining consistent categories year after year, ATTA aims to track real progress within the industry and highlight initiatives that evolve from promising ideas into proven business models.
According to Chris Mears, the focus is firmly on measurable results and tangible change. He notes that the awards are designed to identify initiatives that truly transform lives, protect wildlife, or reshape supply chains within tourism. From small eco-lodges to major tour operators, every organization with a scalable sustainability blueprint is encouraged to participate.
Echoing this sentiment, Nigel Vere-Nicoll emphasized that Africa is increasingly positioning itself as a global leader in regenerative tourism. The awards, he explained, help distinguish organizations genuinely doing the hard work of sustainability from those simply talking about it.
Entries are free and organizations may submit applications in up to two categories before the 17 April 2026 deadline. Winners will be unveiled during a special ceremony at Experience Africa in London on 22 June 2026, offering finalists international exposure and recognition among global travel buyers actively seeking purpose-driven partners.
Beyond recognition, the awards provide a powerful platform for tourism businesses to validate their sustainability efforts, strengthen their reputation, and inspire the wider industry. For organizations committed to meaningful change in African tourism, the ATTA® for Action Awards offer the perfect stage to prove that sustainability can drive both impact and success.
Entries are now open.
