From Coastal Adventures To Naivasha’s Rally Tracks, Kenya Showcases A Multi-Experience Destination
Kenya is gearing up to host more than 10,000 regional visitors during the highly anticipated World Rally Championship Safari Rally scheduled for March 12th–15th, 2026 in Naivasha. The globally renowned motorsport event is expected to draw thousands of fans from across East Africa while delivering a significant boost to the country’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
According to Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei, rally enthusiasts from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia are expected to join local and international fans for the 2026 edition, highlighting the importance of the East African region as a key tourism source market for Kenya.

In an exciting twist this year, many visitors are combining the thrill of the rally with Kenya’s diverse tourism experiences. A group of Ugandan rally fans led by Emmanuel Mugaga recently explored Kenya’s coastline before heading to the rally. Their itinerary included visits to the stunning Diani Beach, enjoying fresh seafood and experiencing the vibrant nightlife in Mombasa.
The group spent several days touring coastal destinations including Kilifi County and Kwale County before being flagged off from Mombasa to begin their road trip to Naivasha. The journey highlights Kenya’s strategy of promoting multi-destination travel, where visitors can explore the country’s beaches, culture, and adventure offerings alongside world-class sporting events.
Local leaders and tourism stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that such collaborations strengthen the regional tourism circuit while boosting economic opportunities for communities and businesses.
The East African region continues to play a vital role in Kenya’s tourism growth. Last year alone, the region contributed 568,264 visitors, with Uganda accounting for 238,595 arrivals, followed by Tanzania with 212,365 visitors, while Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo also recorded notable growth.
Beyond the adrenaline of rally racing, the Safari Rally continues to deliver significant socio-economic benefits by stimulating demand in hotels, restaurants, and local enterprises across Nakuru County and surrounding destinations. As engines roar in Naivasha this March, Kenya once again showcases its unique ability to combine world-class sport with unforgettable travel experiences.
