Government Backs WRC Safari Rally As 600,000 Fans Expected For The Global Motorsport Spectacle
World Rally Championship Safari Rally has once again roared into Naivasha, bringing with it a significant boost to tourism, investment and sports development as Kenya hosts one of its most celebrated international sporting events.
Running from March 12th to 15th, 2026, the rally has attracted 46 drivers, including 17 Kenyan competitors, and is expected to draw about 600,000 fans over the three-day spectacle. Since its return in 2021, the event has continued to strengthen Kenya’s reputation as a leading sports tourism destination while attracting global media attention and regional visitors.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the rally is already delivering strong economic benefits, particularly in the hospitality sector across Nakuru. Hotels and accommodation facilities around Naivasha are operating at near full capacity as rally fans, teams and visitors flock to the region.
The government has also supported the 2026 edition through sponsorship via the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, sponsoring a rally car to help promote Destination Kenya globally and strengthen the country’s growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Meanwhile, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya revealed that about 10,000 regional visitors are expected to attend, with overall attendance projected to surpass last year’s 400,000 spectators.
Beyond the excitement, the government is also working with the private sector to establish a motorsport talent academy aimed at nurturing young Kenyan drivers and technicians, ensuring the long-term growth of motorsport in the country.
