From Trails To Triumph, How The Forest Challenge 2025 Sparked A Greener Tomorrow
On 29th November, The Forest Challenge 2025, 10th Edition unfolded in spectacular fashion, bringing together environmental enthusiasts, corporate partners, and conservation leaders for a day of action, awareness, and celebration. Held in Kereita Forest, Aberdare in the lush landscapes of Kiambu County, the event was a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving Kenya’s forest ecosystems. From early morning departures to late afternoon farewells, participants were immersed in a well-orchestrated experience that blended physical challenge, environmental education, and cultural expression.

Organized by KENVO, the East African WildLife Society (EAWLS), the Kenya Forest Service, and The Forest Challenge, the event kicked off with entertainment by Gim Events, a warm-up session led by Bramwel Wangila, and a stirring rendition of the National Anthem. Reverend Julius Njoroge offered prayers before welcoming remarks were delivered by Mr. Benjamin Mundi and Ms. Nancy Ogonje. Participants were then briefed by Mr. Jabes Okumu before being flagged off by a representative of the Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Alex Lemarkoko.

The heart of the day was the Forest Challenge itself — a thrilling outdoor experience that tested endurance and teamwork while highlighting the beauty and fragility of Kenya’s forests. As teams navigated the terrain, a ceremonial tree planting led by Mr. Mundi reinforced the event’s core mission: to restore and protect forest cover. Judging was conducted by John Nyaga (EAWLS), Dr. George Njagi (WCK), and Joseph Macharia (KFS), while entertainment and certificate presentations kept spirits high.

The afternoon featured inspiring speeches from key figures including Mr. Nelson Muiru (KENVO), Ms. Nancy Ogonje (EAWLS), Mr. Kibet Boen (County Commissioner, Kiambu), Hon. David Kuria (CEC Member, Water, Environment & Natural Resources), and a representative of Mr. Alex Lemarkoko (Chief Conservator of Forests). Their messages emphasized collaboration, sustainability, and the role of community in conservation efforts.

The event was proudly sponsored by a diverse group of partners who share a commitment to environmental stewardship. These included Safarilink, Madison Group, Kevian, Entumoto, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), PKF, Mr. Berry, Intrepid, Tradewinds, Hivos People’s Unlimited, RSA, RUPA’s, and many more. Their support helped make the day a resounding success, showcasing the power of public-private partnerships in driving ecological change.

Go Places was privileged to cover this event live, capturing the energy, emotion, and impact of The Forest Challenge 2025. As the sun set and participants departed for Nairobi, the message was clear: Kenya’s forests are worth fighting for, and together, we can ensure their survival for generations to come.
