Raising A Toast To SKAL: Liz Tapawa And Aslam Khan Lead The Celebrations

On the 7th of June, we hosted our regular SKAL Luncheon at the FLYALS Terminal. This event was particularly special as it took place for the first time in an airline hangar.

The SKAL toast was led by Liz Tapawa, the Skal president, alongside Aslam Khan, the chairman of ALS. Following that, Shakeel Khan, the CEO, delivered opening remarks, and the commercial director provided an overview of the company profile, mission, vision, and the airline’s history, highlighting the reasons to choose FlyALS. They also introduced their new scheduled flights to Diani/Ukunda, Masai Mara, Amboseli, and their exclusive passenger service.

The catering was handled by Sarova Kitchens, with drinks and bar service provided by Brew Bistro.

We were honoured to have Najib Balala as an invited guest who addressed the members and guests. He expressed his gratitude to Skal for the invitation and spoke about the vibrancy of the travel industry. With 35 years of experience in the sector, he emphasized the importance of collaboration among friends and colleagues. He also mentioned that he flies with ALS twice a week and highlighted the friendly business environment.

Next, Julie Dably Scott, representing the International Council of Kenya, took the stage. She informed everyone about the upcoming Congress in Malaga, Spain, scheduled for November 1st to 5th, 2023. Additionally, she mentioned the World Travel Market in London, starting on November 6th. She announced the retirement of the 1994 J Castello chain and the introduction of a new presidential chain.

The event continued with the introduction of guests and the induction of new members, followed by networking opportunities,

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TRAVEL & TOURISM PROFESSIONALS KENYA CHAPTER

We are the Kenya chapter of a professional organization of tourism leaders, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry’s managers and executives meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest. The first Club was founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and, in 1934, the “Association Internationale des Skal Clubs” was formed with Florimond Volckaert as its first President, who is considered the “Father of Skal”. In Kenya, the first club was founded in XYZ. Skal International today has approximately 15,000 members in 400 Clubs throughout 80 nations. Most activities occur at the local level, moving up through National Committees, under the umbrella of Skal International, headquartered at the General Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain. The Kenya chapter boasts of 123 members in Nairobi and 456 members at the Coast. Skal International is governed by an Executive Committee of six members, elected by delegates to an annual General Assembly, held during the World Congress, hosted by a different country each year. This allows members first-hand observation of the travel and tourism potential around the world.
