From Entebbe’s Cultural Rhythm To Kampala’s Vibrant Streets, Uganda Embraced Us With Music, Flavour, And Pure Authenticity
We had the privilege to visit Uganda courtesy of the Uganda–Kenya Conference, an incredible initiative championed by Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, Consulate of Uganda in the Kenya Coast region. What awaited us on arrival was far beyond anything we expected — a warm, heartfelt welcome that immediately set the tone for our journey.

The moment we stepped out of Entebbe Airport, the rhythm of traditional drums filled the air. Smiling dancers, vibrant costumes, and infectious energy created an atmosphere that felt both celebratory and deeply cultural. It was one of those rare moments where you instantly feel connected to a place — as if Uganda itself was saying, “Welcome home.”

From the airport, we were whisked away in style — private transportation in a 4×4 Jeep/Land Cruiser, complete with a professional driver guide who became our storyteller, guide, and companion throughout the adventure. His pride for Uganda was genuine, and every stretch of the drive came alive with his insights.
Our first stop was Shaka Zulu, a traditional restaurant renowned for serving authentic Ugandan dishes. It was our first introduction to Uganda’s culinary identity — rich flavors, hearty portions, and a beautiful connection between food and culture. From Luwombo, matoke to stews and fresh local vegetables, every plate felt like a warm welcome.
After lunch, we enjoyed a scenic drive through Kampala, a city that immediately impressed us with its energy and personality. From bustling streets to rolling hills, Kampala is alive — a true African capital that balances culture, modernity, and tradition.

We then checked in at the magnificent Kampala Serena Hotel, our home for the night. A quick freshen-up later, we were on our way to one of Kampala’s finest cultural gems — the Ndere Cultural Centre.
What a show!

The Ndere troupe delivered an unforgettable evening of dance, music, storytelling, and humor — a vibrant showcase of Uganda’s diverse tribes and traditions. If there is one cultural performance you must experience in Kampala, this is it.

After the show, we returned to the serene comfort of the 5-star Kampala Serena Hotel, where the soft lighting, lush gardens, and impeccable hospitality made it easy to unwind after a full and exciting day.
As we headed to bed, the reality set in:
Tomorrow at 6am, we depart into the mountains — deep into the forests of Bwindi — for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing the Mountain Gorillas.
Day 1 was an introduction to Uganda that touched the heart.
The warmth of its people.
The richness of its culture.
The beauty of its soul.
Uganda had already begun to work its magic.
