Celebrating Diversity And Connecting LGBTQ+ Travellers With The Heart Of Africa Through A Dynamic Global Partnership
In a game-changing move set to reshape Africa’s tourism narrative, the African Travel & Tourism Association (ATTA®) has officially sealed a two-year organizational partnership with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA). Announced on 11 April 2025 in Cape Town, this bold collaboration not only opens new doors for African destinations but also underscores a powerful message, Africa is ready to welcome the world, inclusively and proudly.
This strategic alliance grants ATTA® official IGLTA membership status, unlocking extensive global advertising and marketing reach through IGLTA’s expansive network. In return, IGLTA gains ATTA® membership and prime visibility across ATTA®’s trusted platforms. But beyond the exchange of benefits lies a deeper purpose, to connect LGBTQ+ travellers with the heart and soul of Africa’s diverse and vibrant communities.
Kgomotso Ramothea, CEO of ATTA®, expressed the significance of this milestone:
“We are thrilled to establish this formal collaboration with IGLTA, which marks an important step in making African destinations more visible and accessible to LGBTQ+ travellers worldwide. This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusive tourism that celebrates diversity across our continent – and creates meaningful connections between international visitors and African communities.”
John Tanzella, President and CEO of IGLTA, echoed the excitement, noting:
“We look forward to collaborating with ATTA® to support safe and inclusive tourism and strengthening connections among our members. Since our historic first IGLTA Global Convention in Africa, held in Cape Town in 2016, we have increased our commitment to raising awareness for LGBTQ+ travel across the continent, and this is another important step on that journey.”
The implementation of this collaboration will receive hands-on support from both Kgomotso Ramothea and Martina Barth, IGLTA’s Membership Manager for Africa and Group Sales Manager at The Liz McGrath Collection.
As global demand for authentic, inclusive travel experiences continues to grow, this partnership positions Africa as a vibrant, welcoming, and exciting destination for LGBTQ+ travellers. It’s a bold stride towards a future where travel across the continent is not only adventurous and enriching, but safe, inclusive, and proudly diverse.
Africa is ready. The world is watching. Let the journey begin.
