This special in-person event will feature the renowned Professor Craig Packer, one of the world’s foremost lion experts. A Distinguished University Professor at the University of Minnesota and the Scientific Director of the Mara Predator Conservation Program, Professor Packer has authored more than 200 scientific papers and award-winning books including Into Africa and The Lion: Behavior, Ecology and Conservation of an Iconic Species.
His compelling lecture, titled “On the Edge: Carnivore Conservation in Peril,” will shine a spotlight on the growing human-wildlife conflicts in East Africa. As communities expand and climate pressures intensify, traditional protected areas can no longer shield predators like lions, hyenas, and leopards. Livestock losses are mounting, and conservation efforts are struggling to keep pace. Professor Packer will explore the root causes of this crisis and what must be done to ensure a sustainable future for both large carnivores and the people who live alongside them.
