From Nairobi National Park To The Giraffe Centre, Kenya Sets The Standard For Urban Wildlife Experiences And Sustainable Tourism

Nairobi has once again proven why it’s the heartbeat of sustainable tourism in Africa. At the close of the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference & Expo, held from February 16-18, global tourism experts and dignitaries lauded Kenya for its pioneering conservation policies and its unmatched safari experiences — all within reach of the city.

Delegates from the just concluded Fourth Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference and Expo (GTRDCE 2026) take in the sights during a game drive at Nairobi National Park.

Delegates were treated to a first-hand experience of Nairobi National Park, the only wildlife sanctuary in the world located within a capital city, and the iconic Giraffe Centre. The response was unanimous: Kenya’s model seamlessly blends urban life, community involvement, and wildlife conservation, offering an educational and unforgettable experience for visitors.

“I came here for the Global Resilience Day celebration and conference, and it’s been a very rich experience. Even in big cities, we can have a conservation policy that includes communities and provides tourists with direct contact with wildlife,” said Augusto Kalikemala, Deputy Minister of Tourism for Angola.

The magic of Kenya’s urban safari experience resonated with delegates from across the globe. Fiona Fennell, Public Relations Manager at the Jamaica Tourist Board, shared, “To see animals and wildlife just outside the window of your van was amazing. It was magical — truly why they say ‘Magical Kenya’.”

Regional tourism leaders, including representatives from Rwanda and South Sudan, highlighted the importance of collaborative conservation and tourism growth across East Africa. Their presence underscored the continent’s shared commitment to sustainable tourism practices.

June Chepkemei, CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board, emphasized the significance of these international endorsements: “Their recognition of our conservation efforts and the ‘Magical Kenya’ experience reinforces our position as a global leader in sustainable tourism. This conference celebrates not just resilience but also the enduring beauty and innovative spirit of our industry.”

From urban safaris to conservation education at the Giraffe Centre, Kenya continues to set the global standard for sustainable tourism. The 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference & Expo reaffirmed one thing: where conservation thrives, tourism thrives, and Kenya leads the way.
