A New Chapter In Kenya’s Tourism Story Begins At MKTE 2026
On 28th July 2026, the elegant Nairobi Serena Hotel played host to the highly anticipated Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) 2026 Partners’ Breakfast, where Kenya’s tourism fraternity gathered to officially launch preparations for the 16th edition of East Africa’s premier travel trade exhibition. The prestigious event brought together government leaders, tourism associations, hospitality executives, destination marketers, airline representatives, media partners, and private sector stakeholders, all united by a shared vision of accelerating Kenya’s tourism growth. With an atmosphere filled with optimism, collaboration, and innovation, the breakfast marked the beginning of another exciting chapter for one of Africa’s most influential tourism platforms.

The highlight of the morning was the announcement that MKTE 2026 is set to welcome a record-breaking 10,000 delegates from over 40 countries, alongside more than 400 exhibitors and over 250 carefully vetted international buyers when the expo takes place from 6th to 8th October 2026 at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi. Representing nearly a 30 percent increase from the previous edition, the projected attendance reflects Kenya’s growing appeal as a world-class tourism destination and reinforces the country’s ambitious target of attracting 5 million international arrivals by the end of 2027. The impressive milestone highlighted the confidence that global travel stakeholders continue to place in Kenya’s diverse tourism offering.

Addressing the gathering, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO June Chepkemei emphasized that this year’s expo will be driven by market intelligence, consumer insights, and digital innovation. Held under the inspiring theme, “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” MKTE 2026 will showcase how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, immersive experiences, smart destination management, and digital payment solutions are transforming tourism across Africa. Her remarks reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of tourism innovation while strengthening both domestic and international marketing efforts through data-driven strategies.

The breakfast also spotlighted Kenya’s rapidly expanding Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector as a key pillar of the nation’s tourism growth strategy. Kenya MICE Association Chair Duncan Muriuki shared how the Kenya MICE Club is working closely with government and private sector partners to secure high-value international business events through competitive destination packages and strategic bidding initiatives. Meanwhile, Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK) Chairman Raymond Cheruiyot applauded the government’s continued investment in progressive visa reforms and expanded air connectivity, noting that these initiatives are strengthening Kenya’s competitiveness while opening new opportunities for tourism growth and international partnerships.

For Go Places, the event held special significance as the organisation proudly marked more than 12 years as a trusted Media Partner of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo. As conversations concluded and new partnerships were forged, the MKTE 2026 Partners’ Breakfast left delegates inspired and energized for the journey ahead. More than simply launching another travel exhibition, the event celebrated the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and shared ambition that continues to drive Kenya’s tourism industry forward.
