Forests, Fun & Adventure, Highlights From Kenya’s 10th Forest Challenge 2025
On November 29th, 2025, the lush Kereita Forest in Aberdare, Kiambu County, buzzed with energy as it hosted the 10th edition of The Forest Challenge. The event united environmental advocates, corporate partners, and adventure enthusiasts for a full day of outdoor excitement, learning, and cultural experiences, all set amid one of Kenya’s most iconic green landscapes.

The morning kicked off with lively performances by Gim Events and invigorating warm-up sessions led by Bramwel Wangila, creating a spirited start to the day. Participants joined in singing the National Anthem, fostering a sense of unity, followed by prayers from Reverend Julius Njoroge. Opening remarks by Mr. Benjamin Mundi and Ms. Nancy Ogonje set an inspiring tone, while Mr. Jabes Okumu briefed attendees on the day’s activities. The ceremonial flag-off, led by Mr. Alex Lemarkoko on behalf of the Chief Conservator of Forests, officially marked the start of a day filled with teamwork, adventure, and environmental awareness.

The Forest Challenge itself put participants’ endurance, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to the test as they navigated diverse forest trails. Along the route, a symbolic tree-planting exercise, led by Mr. Mundi, underscored the critical role of forest conservation. Judges John Nyaga (EAWLS), Dr. George Njagi (WCK), and Joseph Macharia (KFS) oversaw the competitions, while live entertainment, awards, and certificates kept spirits high and motivation strong throughout the day.

In the afternoon, powerful speeches from Mr. Nelson Muiru (KENVO), Ms. Nancy Ogonje (EAWLS), Mr. Kibet Boen (County Commissioner, Kiambu), Hon. David Kuria (CEC, Water, Environment & Natural Resources), and a representative of Mr. Lemarkoko emphasized the need for sustainable forest management, active community participation, and collaborative conservation initiatives to safeguard Kenya’s forests for future generations.

The success of the event was made possible through the support of environmentally minded sponsors including Safarilink, Madison Group, Kevian, Entumoto, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), PKF, Intrepid, Tradewinds, Hivos People’s Unlimited, RSA, and RUPA’s. Their contributions highlighted how partnerships between the public and private sectors can drive real ecological impact.

Go Places Media was on-site providing live coverage, capturing everything from adrenaline-pumping challenges to joyful tree-planting ceremonies and the camaraderie that defined the event. As the day concluded, one message rang clear: Kenya’s forests are priceless, and collective action today ensures their protection, sustainability, and prosperity for generations to come.
