The Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has announced the resumption of its Safaricard in selected parks
“Visitors to Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Nairobi and Aberdare National Parks may start using their Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Safaricards that had been previously switched off in December 2017” reads the statement.
A Safari Card is an electronic payment system used in paying park entry fees to selected wildlife parks and reserves under the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
The Safaricard payment system will be officially rolled out from 1st June, 2018 where all visitors will be required to have a SAFARICARD for payment of the park entry fees. Malindi and Diani point of sales will be operational only form 1st June, 2018.
Cash payments are still not allowed at any KWS park gates or offices, therefore the accepted modes of loading the card is through Mpesa, Direct Bank Deposit, EFT and Bank cards. However, tour operators may still make bulk or advance payments through the usual bank accounts and their payments will be loaded onto their Safaricard once they present the bank deposit slips at the POI/POS, during normal working hours.
Temporary cards will be issued at the gate to visitors who do not have the Safaricard which they must return on exit.
Prepaid tickets will remain valid until 31st December, 2018. No new tickets will be issued by KWS for the specified parks from the date the Safaricard system resumes. All other parks will continue using paper tickets.
