Showcasing Authentic Flavours, Strategic Partnerships, And A Gastronomic Vision Set To Inspire Millions Worldwide

Kenya is officially stepping onto the global gastronomy stage, and it’s doing so with flair, flavour, and a powerful vision. As food tourism becomes one of the world’s fastest-growing travel motivators, the country is positioning its richly diverse culinary heritage as a magnet for international visitors, and the world is taking notice.

This strategic shift was on full display during an unforgettable culinary showcase held right at the heart of the wild: Nairobi National Park. The spectacular event was a highlight of the 10th annual Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, blending Kenya’s natural beauty with authentic Italian culinary artistry to create a one-of-a-kind gastronomic celebration.

Italian Ambassador-Designate H.E. Vincenzo Del Monaco (L) and Deputy Ambassador Lorenza Gambacorta (2nd from left) share an Italian delicacy with guests during the culinary event.

At the centre of the cookout was celebrated Italian Chef and digital influencer Lulu Gargari, whose Mediterranean-inspired dishes and sustainable lifestyle content connect with millions online. Her presence brought global spotlight and digital reach, with Italy’s Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, Lorenza Gambacorta, emphasizing how food bridges cultures, traditions, and entire value chains. “Behind a plate, there is always a story,” she noted, and this story is one Kenya is ready to tell the world.

Chef Gargari, a brand ambassador for Italy’s leading food media platform GialloZafferano, helped amplify Kenya’s culinary message to the world. Gambacorta highlighted that the content captured during the event is expected to reach upwards of 70 million viewers globally, offering Magical Kenya the kind of visibility money can’t buy.

Statistics from the World Food Travel Association affirm that the world is hungry for such experiences. Today, 53% of leisure travelers identify as culinary tourists, while 81% say food influences their choice of destination. With the global culinary tourism market valued at a remarkable $1.09 trillion in 2024, it’s clear: travellers are chasing flavours, not just photos. And Kenya is ready.

Local culinary expert Chef Norah Bosibori of Utalii College underscored Kenya’s readiness to welcome diverse palates. She highlighted the institution’s globally aligned curriculum, designed to prepare hospitality professionals to match the tastes and expectations of visitors from every corner of the world, be it Germany, Japan, Italy, Asia, or beyond. “There is a lot you can sample in Kenya,” she assured.

The Kenya Tourism Board’s Marketing Director, Lorna Nyaga, echoed this confidence. “Magical Kenya is a melting pot of different cuisines,” she said, affirming that this culinary experience showcased the country’s unmatched gastronomic appeal. For her, the message is clear: Kenya is not just a destination, it is a dining experience waiting to be savored.

The event itself was the result of powerful collaboration between key partners: the Embassy of Italy in Kenya, Italian Cultural Institute, Italian Trade Agency, Kenya Tourism Board, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Utalii College, marking a new era in Kenya’s culinary diplomacy.

Complementing the cookout was the opening of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World exhibition at the Nairobi National Museum, themed “Dining with Italy: 100 Years of Taste & Innovation.” The exhibition, featuring 50 historic Italian menus, was a first-of-its-kind in Africa, adding cultural depth to an already flavourful celebration.

With such strategic steps and powerful partnerships, Kenya is boldly signalling its readiness to claim its place among the world’s top culinary tourism destinations. And for travellers seeking authentic, meaningful, and flavor-packed experiences, the table is set. Magical Kenya is ready to serve.
