A New Era Of Exploration Begins As Kenya Unveils Innovative Platforms To Inspire More Local And Global
Kenya is redefining how travellers explore and experience its world-famous attractions with the launch of two groundbreaking tourism platforms unveiled during the Kenya Tourism, Wildlife and MICE Week at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
At the centre of this transformation is the Magical Kenya Souvenir Passport, officially launched by President William Ruto. Designed as both a physical collectible and a digital platform, this innovative passport allows travellers, local and international, to collect destination stamps at every attraction they visit. The result? A personal, living record of each traveller’s journey across Kenya’s landscapes, cultures, wildlife experiences, and hidden gems.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano praised the Souvenir Passport as a game-changing innovation, reinforcing Kenya’s leadership in visitor experience. She noted that by allowing travellers to document their adventures and delve deeper into Kenya’s natural and cultural heritage, the new platform boosts engagement and keeps Kenya competitive on the global tourism stage.
Domestic tourism continues to show impressive momentum, with Kenyans forming the backbone of the sector. In 2024 alone, over 5 million bed-nights were recorded from local travellers—not including stays in Airbnbs, homestays, or other informal lodgings, indicating an even stronger impact than documented.
To further boost local exploration, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, through the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), also unveiled Hapa Ni Wapi, a new domestic tourism platform under the Tembea Kenya banner. The platform showcases attractions across the country and offers a wide range of travel packages suited especially for younger travellers, spanning road trips, beaches, cultural tours, and more.
CS Miano urged county governments, communities, and private sector partners to join hands in spotlighting lesser-known attractions and enhancing visitor experiences in all 47 counties.
Speaking at the event, KTB CEO June Chepkemei emphasized that these platforms mark a significant shift in how Kenyans interact with tourism products. By gamifying travel, she noted, the initiatives not only inspire more exploration but also build national pride and memorable experiences for every traveller.
The unveiling took place during the Kenya Tourism, Wildlife and MICE Week, a convening of tourism industry leaders, public and private stakeholders, and county representatives. The forum underscored tourism, wildlife conservation, and MICE as pillars of Kenya’s socio-economic transformation ahead of this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, themed “Tourism, Wildlife and MICE.” President Ruto is expected to make key policy announcements to further steer the sector’s growth.
These strategic initiatives are part of Kenya’s broader ambition to attract 5.5 million tourists by 2027, firmly positioning the nation as a premier global tourism destination.
Kenya is not just inviting the world to travel, it’s making every journey unforgettable.
