From Safari And Beaches To Culture, Sports And Conferences, Kenya Unveils A Broader Tourism Investment Vision

Kenya is boldly positioning itself as Africa’s next big tourism investment hub, using the global stage of ITB Berlin to showcase its diverse tourism opportunities and ambitious growth strategy. With the country targeting 5 million international arrivals by 2027, Kenya is actively inviting global investors to explore new possibilities across its expanding tourism portfolio.

Speaking during the ongoing travel expo in Berlin, John Ololtuaa emphasized that Kenya is leveraging the 60th anniversary of ITB Berlin to reposition and rebrand its tourism identity. While the country’s iconic safari adventures and pristine beaches remain key attractions, the government is now highlighting a wider range of experiences designed to appeal to modern travelers and investors alike.

PS Tourism John Ololtua shares a word with international travel trade partners during the opening of ITB Berlin 2026 in Germany.

According to Ololtuaa, Kenya’s tourism offering is evolving rapidly to include vibrant cultural festivals, world-class sports tourism, global conferencing facilities, and award-winning hospitality infrastructure. As the home of marathon champions and one of Africa’s most diverse destinations, Kenya is uniquely positioned to attract both leisure and business travelers from around the world.

ITB Berlin has also provided an important platform for strengthening international partnerships. During the event, Kenya reaffirmed its growing collaboration with South Africa through a tourism cooperation agreement. Ololtuaa confirmed productive engagements with Maggie Sotyu aimed at implementing a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will boost tourism cooperation between the two nations.

Driving Kenya’s international marketing efforts is the Kenya Tourism Board, whose CEO June Chepkemei highlighted the continued importance of the European market. She noted that European travelers rank second in arrivals after the United States but contribute significantly more revenue due to longer stays and higher spending patterns.

Chepkemei explained that these visitors play a critical role in strengthening Kenya’s tourism economy, helping stabilize the country’s currency while supporting trade and economic growth. She added that the networking and partnerships forged by Kenya’s private sector at ITB Berlin will be instrumental in achieving the country’s ambitious visitor targets.

Investment incentives are also playing a key role in Kenya’s tourism expansion plans. The Tourism Regulatory Authority, through its Director Norbert Talam, is actively promoting government-backed benefits aimed at attracting developers and hospitality investors.

Talam revealed that investors establishing new tourism facilities in Kenya can take advantage of VAT exemptions and customs duty waivers on imported construction materials and equipment, significantly lowering the cost of developing hotels, lodges, resorts, and tourism infrastructure.

Kenya’s delegation, led by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, continues to actively engage global stakeholders at ITB Berlin, which has drawn nearly 6,000 exhibitors from over 160 countries to the German capital. The milestone 60th edition of the world-renowned travel fair is being held under the theme “Discover the Stories Behind 60 Years of Legacy,” with discussions centered on sustainability, artificial intelligence, and industry resilience.

With its renewed branding, expanded tourism offerings, and investor-friendly incentives, Kenya is making a powerful statement on the global stage—one that positions the destination not only as a must-visit travel hotspot but also as a prime investment gateway for the future of African tourism.
