Karen Blixen The Eco-Friendly Luxury Safari Camp
Karen Blixen Camp is an eco-friendly luxury safari camp located in the Mara North Conservancy in Kenya. The camp has received a Gold Eco-Rating certification from Ecotourism Kenya, which is a recognition of their commitment to sustainable tourism practices and environmental conservation.
We have implemented various eco-friendly practices to minimize their impact on the environment. One of the ways in which we do this is by using solar power to generate electricity for the camp. We have installed solar panels throughout the camp which provide a reliable source of clean energy.
The camp also has a comprehensive waste management system in place. We have partnered with a local recycling company to ensure that all waste generated in the camp is properly sorted and recycled. We also compost organic waste to produce fertilizer for the camp’s vegetable garden.
In addition, the Camp is situated in the heart of the Mara North Conservancy, which is a vital ecosystem that supports a diverse range of wildlife. The camp is committed to preserving this delicate ecosystem and has implemented various conservation initiatives to protect the local wildlife.
One of the initiatives is the Mara Dog Project Program, which aims to assist Mara North Conservancy and the local community in dealing with the challenges involved in having (too many) domestic dogs, including disease transfer, scavenging in villages, and dogs roaming the conservancy in pursuit of wildlife.
The camp also supports the Mara Elephant Project, which works to reduce human-elephant conflict and protect elephant populations in the conservancy.
Karen Blixen Camp is also committed to supporting Tree planting. They have a tree-planting program that aims to reforest areas of the Mara North Conservancy. The experience allows guests to actively participate in the camp’s tree-planting program and guests are presented with a personalized certificate, which includes the GPS coordinates of the planting site. This certificate serves as a memento of the guest’s contribution to the camp’s conservation efforts.
