A Perfect Blend Of Adventure, River Experiences And Eco-Luxury At Whispers Of The Nile
Day 6 of our Uganda journey took us east from Kampala to Jinja, a destination synonymous with adventure, water experiences, and the legendary Source of the Nile.
The drive to Jinja is scenic and relaxed, gradually shifting from the busy energy of the capital to a calmer riverside atmosphere. Jinja immediately stands out for its laid-back charm, open spaces, and strong connection to the Nile, which defines both its lifestyle and tourism appeal.
Lunch by the Nile – Sailing Club, Jinja
Our first stop upon arrival was lunch at the Sailing Club, located directly on the banks of the Nile. The setting offers uninterrupted river views and a relaxed ambience, making it an ideal introduction to Jinja’s river culture.
Lunch was served at an easy pace, allowing time to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the afternoon activities ahead.
Water Bicycles – A Unique Nile Experience
Before boarding the boat cruise, we enjoyed a water bicycle experience on the Nile. These pedal-powered bicycles allow guests to glide quietly across the river, offering a peaceful and fun way to experience the Nile from water level.
The activity is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and provides excellent photo opportunities while allowing guests to enjoy the river without engine noise or rush.
Sunset Boat Cruise to the Source of the Nile
Following the water bicycles, we boarded a sunset boat cruise to the Source of the Nile. The cruise featured onboard music, refreshments, and a relaxed celebratory atmosphere.
Upon reaching the Source, there was a brief stop where we alighted from the boat to take photos and experience the significance of standing at the point where the Nile begins its long journey north. This moment was marked by a small celebration onboard, making it a memorable highlight of the day.
Overnight at Whispers of the Nile Eco Luxury Resort
After the cruise, we proceeded to Whispers of the Nile Eco Luxury Resort for our overnight stay.

Dinner was enjoyed at the resort, followed by time around a campfire overlooking the Nile, creating a calm and intimate evening atmosphere. The group opted to stay in and enjoy the resort rather than head out, a testament to the property’s serene appeal.
Breakfast by the River & Site Inspection
The following morning, breakfast was arranged on a patio beside the river, offering uninterrupted views of the Nile. During breakfast, guests could observe rafting boats passing by and birdlife along the riverbanks.
The Managing Director, Bakary Bachou, personally conducted a site inspection of the resort, sharing insights into the property’s concept, facilities, and future expansion plans. The visit highlighted the resort’s commitment to eco-conscious development, wellness, and experiential travel.
Later in the morning, the rest of the group arrived for a site visit before departure, further reinforcing the resort’s suitability for leisure travellers, wellness retreats, and small group events.
