On the glamorous evening of June 28, 2025, the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025 African and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony unfolded in grand style at the prestigious Johari Rotana Restaurant in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event began at 7:00 PM with a welcome cocktail and networking party, setting the perfect tone for an evening of celebration and connection. Attendees from across the continent and the Indian Ocean region mingled and shared stories over refreshments, enjoying the warm Tanzanian hospitality and soaking in the pre-ceremony excitement.
At 8:00 PM, the official gala dinner and award ceremony commenced, marking a spectacular milestone in the travel industry calendar. The event was officially opened with a speech by Mr. Graham Cooke, Founder of the World Travel Awards, who praised the resilience and innovation of the travel and hospitality sectors across Africa and the Indian Ocean. The elegant venue came alive with applause as over 60 prestigious awards were presented throughout the night, recognizing excellence in tourism, travel, and hospitality.
The Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Dkt. Pindi Chana, Tanzania’s Minister of Human Resource and Tourism, delivered a powerful keynote speech, emphasizing the Tanzanian government’s strategic investments in tourism infrastructure and international marketing.
Mr. Ephraim Mafuru, Head of the Tanzania Tourism Board, also shared insights on public-private collaboration to strengthen the country’s position as Africa’s leading travel destination.
