The 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day, Conference and Expo took place from 16th to 18th February 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), positioning Nairobi at the heart of global tourism dialogue. The landmark gathering brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and innovators from across the world to deliberate on the future of tourism resilience amid evolving global challenges. Over three impactful days, the conference reinforced the importance of preparedness, adaptability, and collaboration in safeguarding the tourism sector.

The event was officially graced by the Chief Guest of Honour, His Excellency the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, whose address underscored Kenya’s commitment to championing tourism resilience at both regional and global levels. Also in attendance were Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, Jamaica, a global advocate for tourism resilience; Hon. Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife – Kenya; and Hon. John Ololtuaa, CBS, Principal Secretary, State Department for Tourism. Their presence highlighted strong international and governmental alignment in strengthening tourism systems worldwide.

Thought leadership was further enriched by Prof. Lloyd Waller, Executive Director of the Global Tourism Resilience & Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC), who provided strategic insights on managing disruptions, crisis preparedness, and long-term recovery frameworks. Opening sessions emphasized the growing risks facing tourism destinations, including climate change, geopolitical shifts, digital vulnerabilities, and misinformation, while calling for coordinated global action to ensure sector sustainability.

Across the conference sessions, expert panels and technical discussions explored actionable strategies for building resilient destinations. Topics ranged from policy frameworks and investment models to digital transformation, data intelligence, and workforce readiness. Delegates shared case studies and best practices that demonstrated how resilience can be integrated into destination planning, crisis response, and tourism governance, moving the conversation from theory to practical implementation.

Global Tourism Resilience Day on 17th February brought renewed focus on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. Discussions highlighted the role of technology, artificial intelligence, and early warning systems in protecting destinations, while also emphasizing community participation, youth empowerment, and conservation-driven tourism as pillars of long-term resilience. The expo floor complemented these discussions, showcasing innovative solutions, research initiatives, and destination resilience models from across the globe.
