Kenya And China Strengthen Business Ties, Recap Of The IKNCCI Event

The recent interaction between the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China marked a significant milestone in fostering bilateral business relations. Dr. Erick Rutto, President of KNCCI, led the delegation in a constructive dialogue with Mr. Yijun, Minister Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office at the Chinese Embassy.

During the meeting, Dr. Rutto expressed gratitude for the longstanding partnership between KNCCI and the Chinese Embassy, particularly highlighting joint efforts in industrial transformation, value addition, and skills development within the SME sector since 2019. Despite facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KNCCI has made commendable progress, including the establishment of its overseas China branch in 2023 and facilitating multiple delegations to China.

Mr. Yijun reciprocated the appreciation, emphasizing the fruitful collaboration between KNCCI and the Chinese Embassy in driving private sector growth. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting KNCCI in enhancing bilateral trade relationships, offering technical assistance, and addressing visa processing concerns for KNCCI members.

A notable outcome of the discussion was the invitation extended to KNCCI to participate in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai from April 20th to 24th. This expo, renowned for its focus on imports, presents a valuable opportunity for Kenyan businesses to showcase their products and explore new markets.

Furthermore, Mr. Yijun highlighted China’s recent approvals for additional companies to export avocados, with ongoing tests for red chilies, green grams, dried bananas, and dried mangoes. These developments underscore China’s commitment to expanding trade cooperation with Kenya and exploring new avenues for economic growth.

In conclusion, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering continued cooperation for the mutual benefit of Kenya and China. The IKNCCI event served as a platform to strengthen ties, explore new opportunities, and pave the way for enhanced trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.
