Choosing The Right Wedges For Your Game!
This Edition we will discuss the best wedges for you. Depending on the type of shot you like to play around the greens, here are a few tips on the best wedge to use.
Parachute Or Flop Shot
A flop shot is played anytime a golfer needs to hit a high shot over an obstacle such as a bunker (pictured above) and land the ball with spin on the green. This is a high-risk shot and definitely requires a lot of practice. Club of choice – 60 degrees or lob wedge. A lob wedge, also known as a lofted wedge or a L-Wedge is known for being one of the shortest-hitting clubs and providing the most loft on a shot. Lob wedges are used to produce shots with a very high arc and are most often used for shots over hazards and other obstructions.
Pitch (Chip) & Run
The pitch and run – also called a “chip and run” – is an approach shot to the green typically played from close to the green’s edge. The golfer has the option to pitch the ball or chip the ball from such a location. Usually, the ball arc is lower with less spin and more roll. Club of choice – Pitching Wedge. A pitching wedge has a loft of usually 46-48 degrees and when used for chipping or pitching, the result is a lower arc.
