Under the glittering Nairobi sky on September 7th, 2024, the Sarova Hotels family celebrated a golden milestone; the 50th anniversary of their journey in indigenous African hospitality. The gala dinner, held at the elegant Sarova Panafric Hotel, was a testament to the brand’s legacy and future, combining opulence with a deep sense of tradition.
From its beginnings in 1974 with the iconic Ambassadeur Hotel in Nairobi, Sarova Hotels has grown into a symbol of luxury and warmth, now encompassing a portfolio of nine stunning properties. The Sarova @ 50 Gala Dinner was an embodiment of this evolution, blending timeless elegance with a vibrant celebration of the brand’s achievements.
The black-tie affair was a spectacle of glamour, drawing Kenya’s tourism, social, and business elite dressed to the nines. As guests mingled amidst the soft flicker of lighting and lush décor, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and pride. The evening’s highlight was the inspiring address by Cabinet Secretary of Tourism, Hon. Rebecca Miano, who praised Sarova’s remarkable journey and expressed hopes for even greater achievements in the decades to come.
The event’s aesthetic was as impressive as its guest list. Tables adorned in black and gold, coupled with a butterfly-themed décor, symbolized Sarova’s growth and transformation. The culinary experience was a journey in itself, featuring a buffet dubbed “A Culinary Odyssey.” Guests savoured a diverse array of gourmet offerings, from fresh organic ingredients and exquisite BBQs to global desserts showcased at seven grand stations.
Jimi Kariuki, Managing Director of Sarova Hotels, eloquently reflected on the company’s journey. Comparing their 50-year history to the Great Banyan Tree, he emphasized the importance of nurturing growth and expanding horizons. Hon. John Ngata Kariuki, Chairman of Sarova Hotels, provided a poignant moment during his remarks, acknowledging the vital role of the founders’ spouses in the company’s success. He revealed that the name ‘SAROVA’ was derived from the initials of the founders’ wives, symbolizing unity, love, and unwavering support, a beacon that has guided the brand through its journey.
