All The Inspiring Moments, Strategic Connections, And Standout Sessions That Lit Up The Event
Cape Town is buzzing with energy as WTM Africa 2025 wraps up today at the CTICC, and what an exhilarating few days it has been! From the moment the doors opened on April 9th, it was clear this year’s edition would be unlike any other. Under the banner “Ignite Africa,” the event brought together a dynamic mix of travel professionals, tourism boards, airlines, hotel brands, innovators, and thought leaders, all focused on shaping the future of Africa’s tourism.
One of the most impactful changes this year was the introduction of theme-based mini-conferences. These carefully curated sessions tackled the industry’s biggest challenges and opportunities head-on, from sustainable tourism and digital transformation to aviation growth and investment potential. The format allowed for deeper conversations and real, actionable insights.
The Africa Tourism Investment Conference, held in collaboration with JLL, stood out as a vital platform for unlocking the continent’s vast tourism investment potential. Discussions focused on how to drive impactful development while fostering sustainable growth. Meanwhile, the Responsible Tourism Awards were an inspiring highlight, celebrating exceptional efforts in eco-conscious and community-driven tourism across Africa.
Workshops in the Brain Box arena added an exciting interactive element to the programme. These informal sessions gave attendees a chance to upskill in practical areas, think climate adaptation strategies, nature-positive tourism, and innovative marketing using AI. It’s been fascinating to watch conversations spark in these relaxed, yet highly impactful spaces.
There was also a strong focus on the future of tourism, specifically, the next generation. The WTM Africa Youth Programme created space for young professionals and students to engage with industry mentors and explore career pathways in travel and tourism. The energy and ambition on display were contagious!
WTM Africa 2025 has been more than just a trade show; it’s been a celebration of resilience, collaboration, and vision. The conversations here have reminded me why African tourism holds so much promise, and why it’s more important than ever to keep showing up, sharing ideas, and building together. If the last few days are anything to go by, the future of travel in Africa is not just bright, it’s blazing.
