Etihad Airways Launches In Style At GTC Nairobi

Etihad Airways has strengthened its footprint in East Africa with the grand opening of a new corporate office in Nairobi’s prestigious Global Trade Center (GTC). The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on 22nd January 2025, marked a significant milestone for the airline’s commitment to the Kenyan market. The event was graced by Ahmad Dib, Etihad Airways General Manager for the Middle East & Africa, Dr. Joseph Kithitu, Chairman of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA), and notable local business leaders. Md Nev  Jiwani, Managing Director of Go Places Digital, also attended the event, further highlighting the occasion’s significance.

Strategically located in Westlands, Nairobi’s prime business district, the new office enhances Etihad Airways’ presence in Kenya, complementing its recently launched direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Nairobi. These flights, operating four times a week with an Airbus A320, provide convenient morning departures from Abu Dhabi and evening flights from Nairobi, catering to business and leisure travelers alike. Javier Alija, Etihad Airways VP of Global Sales & Distribution, noted that the Nairobi route’s strong performance reflects the growing ties between the UAE and Kenya.

The opening of the office is a testament to Etihad’s dedication to the Kenyan aviation market. Dr. Joseph Kithitu lauded the investment, emphasizing its positive impact on Kenya’s travel trade and connectivity. Etihad Airways has been actively engaging with the local workforce through recruitment drives and plans to expand these efforts, showcasing its intention to integrate further into the Kenyan market.

The Global Trade Center, a modern landmark in Nairobi, is home to numerous international corporations, making it an ideal base for Etihad Airways’ operations in Kenya. The airline aims to leverage the center’s strategic location to serve the needs of Kenya’s rapidly growing business travel sector. With Abu Dhabi positioned as a global business hub, the new service strengthens the connection between East Africa and the Middle East, boosting trade and tourism.

The launch event garnered extensive coverage from Go Places Digital, highlighting its significance for Kenya’s travel industry. Neville Jiwani expressed excitement about the opportunities created by Etihad Airways’ enhanced presence in Nairobi, underscoring the benefits for travelers and businesses alike. This move signals Etihad’s confidence in Kenya’s economic growth and its vital role in connecting the region to global markets.
