8 Mar-International women's day

Six All-Women-Operated Flights Take Off To Five Continents In A Groundbreaking Celebration Of International Women’s Day

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and fastest-growing airline, marked International Women’s Day 2025 in grand style, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to gender equality and empowerment. The airline orchestrated a series of vibrant events at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, attended by esteemed government officials, distinguished guests, and the airline’s top executives. The highlight of the celebrations was a remarkable display of women’s excellence in aviation, special all-women-operated flights to six destinations across five continents.

Elevating Women in Aviation

As part of its long-standing tradition, Ethiopian Airlines once again operated flights entirely managed by women, covering key destinations including Bahir Dar, Athens, Delhi, Dubai, Windhoek, and São Paulo. From aircraft maintenance, catering, and check-in to lounge services and flight operations, these flights underscored the airline’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

Speaking at the event, Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Mesfin Tasew, emphasized the airline’s dedication to advancing gender equality in aviation. “We are thrilled to celebrate March 8 as we do every year at Ethiopian Airlines. As an employer of choice, we are deeply committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the aviation industry and the broader community. In today’s modern aviation landscape, women play an indispensable role across all sectors, significantly contributing to the industry’s dynamic growth. Today, we honor the remarkable achievements of women in aviation and beyond, while also inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams without limitations.”

A Legacy of Empowerment

Ethiopian Airlines has made remarkable strides in integrating women into its workforce, with approximately 40% of its employees being women across various divisions. From cockpit crew and cabin crew to aircraft technicians and managerial roles, women are playing a vital role in the airline’s success and its continued global expansion.

The airline’s all-women-operated flights initiative, a hallmark of Ethiopian Airlines, aligns seamlessly with the global call for gender equality. By breaking stereotypes and redefining industry norms, Ethiopian Airlines is not only setting an example for other airlines but also highlighting the critical need for continued support and recognition of female leaders in aviation and beyond.

Flying Towards a More Inclusive Future

Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to empowering women extends far beyond International Women’s Day. The airline continuously invests in training, mentorship, and leadership programs that create opportunities for women to excel in aviation. These efforts not only foster a culture of inclusivity but also pave the way for future generations of women to take their place in the skies.

As the world celebrates the achievements of women across various industries, Ethiopian Airlines stands as a beacon of progress and inspiration. Through its bold initiatives and unwavering commitment, the airline continues to elevate women’s presence in aviation, proving that the sky is truly the limit.
