The inaugural flight was marked with a vibrant celebration at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, graced by top dignitaries, including H.E. Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdassa, Chairman of Ethiopian Airlines Board; Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO; senior government officials; UAE Embassy representatives; and airline executives.

“The launch of our new service to Abu Dhabi reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to connecting Africa with the world,” said Mr. Mesfin Tasew, highlighting the airline’s strategic partnership with Etihad Airways, a collaboration set to unlock new trade, investment, and tourism opportunities between Ethiopia and the UAE while offering passengers greater choice and convenience.

With this addition, Ethiopian Airlines now connects Africa to four airports across three key UAE cities, Dubai (DXB & DWC), Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi’s iconic Zayed International Airport. Ethiopian operates over 100 weekly passenger flights to 13 Middle Eastern destinations, reinforcing its position as the Gulf’s leading African carrier.

The Abu Dhabi launch also marks a significant milestone in the joint venture agreement between Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways, enhancing route development and global connectivity while strengthening ties between two national carriers with a shared vision for growth.
