Ethiopian Airlines, Leading The Way In Aviation Safety With IATA Charter
In a groundbreaking move, Ethiopian Airlines has emerged as one of the inaugural signatories of the IATA Safety Leadership Charter. This historic commitment took place at the IATA World Safety and Operations Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, where safety leaders from more than 20 leading airlines joined forces to pledge their allegiance to safety excellence.
The Safety Leadership Charter, a milestone initiative by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), seeks to fortify safety cultures within aviation organizations through adherence to eight core safety leadership guiding principles. Developed in close consultation with IATA members and the broader aviation community, it serves as a guiding light for industry leaders in nurturing a positive safety ethos within their organizations.
These guiding principles encompass:
Leading by example, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to safety.
Cultivating safety awareness at all levels, from employees to the boardroom.
Fostering trust and accountability, encouraging the reporting of safety-related information.
Integrating safety seamlessly into business strategies, processes, and performance metrics.
Continuously evaluating and enhancing organizational safety culture.
This charter marks a significant stride toward enhancing safety leadership and underscores its pivotal role in driving continual improvements in safety performance.
As a prominent member of IATA, Ethiopian Airlines Group stands at the forefront of this safety movement, alongside over 300 airlines in more than 120 countries. Carrying a staggering 83% of the world’s air traffic, IATA’s membership includes leading passenger and cargo carriers, making Ethiopian Airlines’ involvement all the more remarkable.
Ethiopian Airlines is committed to upholding the highest safety standards, exemplified by its forthcoming 10th IOSA audit in February 2024. This commitment reinforces its dedication to ensuring passenger safety and operational excellence.
