Unlocking New Horizons With Cutting-Edge 777-9 Jets

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 5, 2024 Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest aviation conglomerate, has taken a momentous step toward revolutionizing air travel on the continent. In a strategic collaboration with Boeing, Ethiopian Airlines is set to acquire eight state-of-the-art Boeing 777-9 passenger airplanes, with the potential to expand its fleet by an additional 12 jets. This landmark agreement positions Ethiopian Airlines as the first 777X customer in Africa.

The 777-9, built upon the legacy of the 777 and incorporating advanced technologies from the 787 Dreamliner family, boasts remarkable features. Its carbon-fiber composite wings and efficient engines contribute to a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency and operating costs compared to its competitors. With its extended range and enhanced passenger and cargo capacity, the 777-9 will enable Ethiopian Airlines to connect Africa with key international destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America. As air traffic continues to surge, this investment positions Ethiopian Airlines to meet the growing demand for seamless travel experiences. The carrier’s ambitious vision includes flying to more than 209 international destinations by 2035, supported by a modern and eco-friendly fleet.

Boeing’s airplanes have been an integral part of Ethiopian Airlines’ success story. The airline currently operates a diverse fleet, including 29 787 Dreamliners, 20 777s, three 767s, 27 Next-Generation 737s, and 15 737 MAX jets.
