OUD: The Fragrance of Royalty And Exclusivity
Oud means wood in Arabic, although it is more than just a piece of tree. It is known as black gold and for perfumers, it is a unique ingredient with which to achieve very special aromas. And you may wonder, what is the reason for so much mystery and exclusivity? The Oud is extracted from a tree called Aquilaria.
We get oud from this tropical tree of the genus Aquilaria when infected by a certain type of fungus called Phialophora parasitica. The infected tree reacts by producing a rare and valuable resin, oud wood, also known as agarwood, agar oud, or aloe wood.
Oud gives a warm, musky, animalic, and slightly sweet — a deeply rich and complex fragrance that lingers long after it’s been applied or burned. Oud is synonymous with luxury, exclusivity, and intimacy.
