What started in 2004 as a simple idea in Dublin, a global day to celebrate chefs, has grown into a worldwide movement of passion, creativity, and purpose. Spearheaded by the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs), International Chefs Day, marked every October 20th, has become a day when the culinary world pauses to celebrate not just food, but the people behind it, the mentors, educators, innovators, and changemakers who shape how we eat and live.
Across East Africa, this spirit has been embraced with extraordinary enthusiasm. From Nairobi to Kigali, Dar es Salaam to Kampala, chefs have stepped beyond their kitchens to make a difference, feeding orphans, mentoring young culinary talents, and teaching communities about nutrition and food safety. Each celebration has blended joy with purpose, leaving behind heartwarming stories of compassion. Past editions have seen chefs come together to prepare meals for over 500 orphans, host thrilling culinary competitions, and create interactive cooking activities for children, all centered around healthy eating and the joy of sharing food.
Now, in 2025, this global celebration reaches an incredible milestone, 20 years of International Chefs Day! And where better to mark this special anniversary than in Arusha, Tanzania, the vibrant safari capital of East Africa, on Saturday, 18th October 2025. With its rich culture, warm hospitality, and a thriving culinary scene, Arusha provides the perfect stage to honor two decades of flavor, creativity, and service.
