The Board of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nicanor Sabula as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Sabula, who previously served as CEO from 2015 to 2019 returns to lead the Association.
With vast experience spanning two decades in leadership roles within national and international trade associations, Mr. Sabula will be instrumental in driving KATA’s ambitious strategic objectives which include expanding its membership countrywide, enhancing the value proposition for members, strengthening its advocacy role, and building a sustainable financial base.
“We are excited to welcome Nicanor back as our new CEO. He is the right fit for our organization, especially at this time when the travel industry is experiencing rapid growth post the COVID pandemic,” stated Dr. Joseph Kithitu, KATA Chairman.
Mr. Sabula assumes the role from Ms. Agnes Mucuha who has left to pursue other opportunities. The Board expresses gratitude for Ms. Mucuha’s invaluable contribution over the past four years which has been pivotal in KATA’s strategic growth as the leading travel association in Africa. “Under her stewardship, KATA has achieved numerous significant milestones and successes. Her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our association have been commendable’ added Dr. Kithitu.

The Kenya Association of Travel Agents is the national umbrella body for Travel Agents in Kenya, with a growing membership of over 300 Travel Agencies. It is Kenya’s largest and only membership organization for travel agents. KATA transitioned from a society to a company limited by guarantee in 2018, providing more space for growth and defending the travel trade. KATA is a member of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents’ Association (UFTAA), Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), and African Tourism Council. It also hosts the Secretariat of the Association of Eastern and Southern African Travel Agents (AESATA).
