Africa’s MICE Future Takes Centre Stage At The Africa MICE Investors & Stakeholders Round Table

Industry Leaders Convene In Nairobi To Unlock Investment And Shape The Road To Africa MICE Summit 2026

Africa’s business events industry took another important step forward as key decision-makers from government, tourism boards, convention bureaux, hospitality, aviation, investment, venues, destination management companies and the private sector gathered at the Trademark Hotel in Nairobi for the exclusive Africa MICE Investors & Stakeholders Round Table.

Convened by Africa MICE Hub, the high-level breakfast forum brought together influential stakeholders to explore Africa’s growing potential within the global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry while setting the strategic direction towards the Africa MICE Summit 2026, scheduled to take place at the Tembo International Convention Centre in Mombasa, Kenya.

Held under the theme “Convene. Connect. Convert,” the invite-only roundtable focused on how Africa can transform its immense potential into stronger investment, world-class infrastructure, innovative business events and measurable economic impact.

Repositioning Africa As The Next MICE Investment Frontier

Through engaging sessions including Setting the Compass and The Big Picture, delegates examined why this is the right time for Africa to strengthen its position in the global business events market.

With a population of more than 1.5 billion people and rapidly growing economies, Africa possesses significant potential to become a leading MICE and investment destination. However, the continent currently captures only a small share of global MICE revenue, presenting a major opportunity for governments, investors and industry stakeholders to develop new infrastructure, strengthen destinations and unlock sustainable growth.

The discussions reinforced the need to reposition MICE beyond hosting meetings and conferences by recognising its wider contribution to investment, trade, tourism, job creation, destination branding and economic development.

Building The Stage And Powering The Ecosystem

The Building the Stage session highlighted the importance of investing in modern convention centres, quality venues, accommodation, transport connectivity and destination readiness to enable African destinations to compete for major international events.

Attention then shifted to Powering the Ecosystem, where stakeholders explored how technology, innovation, skilled talent and stronger collaboration can shape the future of Africa’s business events industry.

Delegates emphasised that sustainable MICE growth will require coordinated partnerships between governments, tourism organisations, investors, hospitality providers, airlines, event professionals and destination stakeholders.

Unlocking Capital For Africa’s MICE Ambition

Investment emerged as one of the key priorities during the Unlocking the Capital session.

Industry leaders explored what investors consider when selecting MICE destinations, including strong economic fundamentals, political stability, international air connectivity, ease of doing business, transparent investment policies, government support, efficient licensing and access to skilled local talent.

The discussions also examined investment models such as operator partnerships, franchise agreements, management contracts and equity investment, all of which could play a vital role in accelerating the development of Africa’s future MICE landscape.

The Nairobi Commitment And The Road To Mombasa

The forum concluded with The Nairobi Commitment, outlining three strategic priorities that will guide the journey towards Africa MICE Summit 2026:

  • Build the Stage – Strengthen infrastructure, destinations and venues.
  • Power the Ecosystem – Advance innovation, technology, skills and collaboration.
  • Unlock Capital – Drive investment, partnerships and sustainable financing.

The road now leads to Mombasa, where the Africa MICE Summit 2026 will bring together industry leaders, investors and solution providers for expanded networking, knowledge exchange and business opportunities. The summit will also feature specialised pre-summit masterclasses, an expanded Africa MICE Marketplace and more than 100 solution providers.
