A Collaborative Initiative To Enhance Cultural Preservation  In Kenya

The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) and CityBlue Hotels have proudly announced a strategic partnership aimed at promoting tourism and preserving Kenya’s rich cultural heritage. This collaboration signifies a significant milestone in fostering mutual support through sponsorship, co-branding, co-marketing, and various forms of collaborative initiatives.

Established under the Museums and Heritage Act of 2006, NMK plays a pivotal role in collecting, preserving, studying, documenting, and presenting Kenya’s cultural and natural heritage. The institution aims to enhance knowledge, appreciation, respect, and sustainable utilization of these resources for the benefit of Kenya and the global community.

CityBlue Hotels, recognized as Africa’s fastest-growing local hotel chain, operates across multiple countries including Kenya (with properties in Mombasa, Nairobi, and Lamu, and new openings on the horizon), Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Ghana, and collaborates with over twenty hotels in South Africa and Mozambique.

Professor Mary Gikungu, Director General of NMK, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a significant step for NMK to engage with the private sector. CityBlue Hotels shares our commitment to the welfare of mankind and the conservation of East Africa’s biological diversity and global heritage. This alliance will enrich the narrative of NMK and our cultural heritage.”

Jameel Verjee, Founder & CEO of CityBlue Hotels, highlighted the strategic alignment at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum 2024, saying, “NMK manages invaluable Regional Museums, Sites, and Monuments of national and international importance, housing priceless collections of Kenya’s living cultural and natural heritage. As NMK strives to contribute uniquely to national development, we are thrilled to embark on this journey as their partner.”

The partnership between NMK and CityBlue Hotels underscores a shared commitment to promoting cultural tourism, preserving Kenya’s heritage, and contributing to sustainable development. This collaboration is poised to enhance visitor experiences, support local communities, and strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading cultural destination in Africa and globally.

This initiative sets a precedent for future collaborations between public institutions and private enterprises, illustrating the transformative potential of partnerships in advancing cultural preservation and tourism development. As NMK and CityBlue Hotels embark on this joint endeavor, they aim to create enduring impacts that benefit both current and future generations.
