Celebrating Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the 2024 Eco Warrior Awards

Ecowarrior Awards 2024 Featured Winners 01

Honouring Kenya’s Top Tourism Leaders For Outstanding Contributions To Sustainable Travel

The 2024 Eco Warrior Awards, held on Thursday, 17th October 2024, at the prestigious Emara Ole Sereni in Nairobi, once again recognized and celebrated the tourism industry’s most outstanding leaders in sustainable tourism practices across Kenya. This year’s event, themed “Realizing Sustainable Development Goals through Sustainable Tourism,” brought together key players in the tourism sector, environmental advocates, and dignitaries to celebrate the remarkable strides made in eco-friendly travel and conservation.

Hosted by Ecotourism Kenya, the annual awards ceremony showcases and honours companies and individuals who have implemented impactful projects focusing on sustainability, conservation, and community involvement. The event featured distinguished guests including Mr. Fred Odek, Chairman of Kenya Tourism Federation, and Hon. John Ololtuaa, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife, State Department for Tourism, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of aligning tourism efforts with Kenya’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ms. June Chepkemei was unable to attend the event and was represented by esteemed members of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) team.

The winners were announced by Lucy Macridis, the Chief Judge, who provided detailed explanations of each winning category and the remarkable achievements of the recipients. This year, the event recognized innovative projects from a variety of sectors in tourism—ranging from lodges, conservancies, and tour operators to community-based tourism initiatives that have demonstrated exemplary commitment to sustainable tourism practices.

Go Places is proud to have been a continuous supporter of the Eco Warrior Awards, as part of our broader mission to promote sustainable travel in Kenya and beyond. The awards are an important platform that encourages businesses to embrace eco-friendly practices and celebrate those making a positive difference.

Winners of this year’s Eco Warrior Awards showcased cutting-edge sustainable initiatives, from wildlife conservation efforts to community upliftment projects, setting new standards for what responsible tourism should look like.

The night was filled with energy, as the winners, including some of Kenya’s most respected tourism brands, were recognized and celebrated for their unwavering commitment to sustainability. A special mention was given to several innovative projects that have not only enhanced the visitor experience but also preserved Kenya’s rich biodiversity.

The Eco Warrior Awards gala continues to be a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating the incredible achievements of those in the industry working to make sustainable tourism the norm, not the exception.
