Ancient Wonders And Modern Warmth
In early June 2024, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Jordan, sponsored by the Jordanian Embassy. Alongside a delegation from Kenya, totaling 25 members, we were graciously hosted by the Jordanian Tourism Board. Our adventure began with a flight on Qatar Airways, a carrier that embodies luxury and comfort. The brief stopover in Doha was nothing short of spectacular, with its verdant landscapes and stunning vistas, a perfect start to the wonders that awaited us in Jordan.
Upon landing at Queen Alia International Airport, we were warmly received by a delegation from the Jordanian Embassy. Their hospitality was immediately evident as we were escorted to a sleek, modern shuttle that took us to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, situated near the Dead Sea. The hotel was a marvel of contemporary design, with automated rooms offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. This initial stay set the tone for a trip that was as diverse as it was enlightening, blending the modernity of Jordan with its rich history.
Our first full day began with a hearty breakfast overlooking the serene Dead Sea, followed by a visit to the historic baptism site of Jesus Christ. This spiritually enriching experience was complemented by the serene beauty of the area, making it a moment of reflection. Lunch back at the hotel was a delightful affair, offering a mix of local and international cuisines.
The next day, we journeyed to Petra, an ancient city that defies description. Checking into the Petra Moon Luxury Hotel, we were treated to views that seemed straight out of a postcard. The highlight of the day was the “Petra by Night” tour, a mesmerizing walk through the Siq to the Treasury, illuminated by thousands of candles. The atmosphere was magical, evoking a sense of wonder and reverence for the Nabataean civilization that once thrived here.
After exploring Petra’s marvels, we travelled to Aqaba, where the Saraya Al Manara Hotel offered luxury and relaxation by the Red Sea. A short respite here was followed by an adventurous day in Wadi Rum, known as the Valley of the Moon. Our visit to the Sun City Camp included a thrilling Jeep tour and a camel ride, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the stark beauty of this desert landscape.
Back in Amman, the capital city, we explored the northern regions of Ajloun and Tal Mar Elias. The ancient ruins of Jerash were a highlight, showcasing Jordan’s rich historical heritage. The journey through these sites was both educational and exciting, offering a glimpse into the past civilizations that have shaped this land.
Our final days in Jordan were a blend of relaxation and professional engagements. Staying at the Ritz Carlton, we attended workshops and conducted hotel inspections, gaining insights into Jordan’s tourism infrastructure. The evenings were filled with sumptuous dinners and reflections on the week’s experiences.
As our journey came to an end, we departed from Queen Alia International Airport with hearts full of memories and a deeper appreciation for Jordan’s unique blend of history, spirituality, and modernity. This trip was more than just a tour; it was a journey through time, offering profound insights and unforgettable experiences.
Jordan is a destination that beckons with its historical wonders and modern amenities. The Jordanian Tourism Board has crafted an experience that is both deeply enriching and wonderfully diverse. For anyone seeking a travel experience that transcends the ordinary, Jordan is the place to be.
