A BRIEF BACKGROUND OF ALS:
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, ALS Limited began its operations with a humble Cessna 150 in 1985. Over the years, our fleet has grown exponentially, now comprising 36 aircraft, including 50-seater Embraer jets, Dash 8-100/200/300 types, Beech 1900s, and Cessna Caravans.
THE ALS EVOLUTION JOURNEY:
Let’s embark on a journey through ALS’s evolution, highlighting key milestones that have shaped us into the company we are today:
- 1985: ALS takes flight with the acquisition of its first aircraft, the Cessna 150.
- 1992: Introducing the first Cessna Caravan to Kenya, dedicated to serving the UNHCR.
- 1994: Welcoming the Kingair 200 to our fleet.
- 1998: ALS becomes the pioneering operator in Kenya to introduce the Beechcraft 1900.
- 1999: Commencing the Lokichoggio schedule service, later extended for five years in collaboration with Kenya Airways.
- 2002: Establishing crucial partnerships with the World Food Program (WFP) for operations in Iraq, as well as the International Red Cross for operations in Lokichoggio. ALS also provides a Boeing 737 to Kenya Airways on a dry lease agreement.
- 2004: Completion of the ALS Terminal building and hangar at Wilson Airport, coinciding with the launch of Safarilink, with ALS as the major shareholder.
- 2006: Setting another milestone by introducing the DeHavilland Dash 8 to our fleet.
- 2008: Acquiring the first Embraer Jets (135) through a joint venture agreement with the AREF Group.
- 2010: Expanding our reach by acquiring an equity stake in Scenic Air Safaris, a VIP charter company operating Caravans based out of Mombasa.
- 2011: ALS attains the prestigious IOSA certification, becoming the only carrier alongside Kenya Airways to achieve this distinction.
ALS CERTIFICATION:
As an UN-approved operator, ALS works extensively with humanitarian and relief organizations. We have successfully passed the rigorous audits required by esteemed institutions such as WFP, ICRC, MSF, UNPD, and KQ. Furthermore, ALS has received recognition from prominent international oil and mining companies, including Woodside Energy, Tullow Oil, Africa Oil, TOTAL, White Nile, and Barrick. In 2011, ALS became the first ACMI operator in Africa to achieve IOSA certification.
