The Artistic Tapestry Unveiled: A Captivating Evening With Vice President Marquez Mina
As I reflect upon the captivating event I attended on May 15th, 2023, I am overwhelmed with a profound sense of gratitude and admiration. It was a rare opportunity to witness the convergence of diverse cultures and artistic expressions, all orchestrated under the visionary leadership of Vice President Francia Elena Marquez Mina, of the Republic of Colombia. The invitation to the artistic residential work, “Kuridi en Doble Via,” curated by the renowned director of Sankofa Danzafo, promised an unforgettable experience, and it certainly delivered.
The event commenced with a warm welcome, as lively dances and refreshing drinks embraced us, setting the stage for what was to be an evening of cultural immersion. We were then guided through the corridors of a traditional homestead, each step resonating with the echoes of history and heritage. As we navigated through the vibrant ambience, a feeling of unity and interconnectedness prevailed.
The highlight of the evening came when esteemed guests, including Vice President Marquez Mina, participated in a momentous tree-planting ceremony. This symbolic act encapsulated the spirit of growth, renewal, and shared responsibility towards our environment. The presence of Grace Akinyi, the master of ceremonies, added an aura of elegance and grace to the occasion, accentuating the significance of the event.
The air became electrified as the soul-stirring live anthems of Colombia and Kenya filled the atmosphere, passionately performed by Cecilia Silva and Kendi Nkonge, respectively. The melodies resonated with every heart present, transcending language barriers and unifying us in a powerful way.
Amidst the sea of inspiring speeches and heartfelt remarks, Vice President Marquez Mina took the stage. Her words, delivered with authenticity and emotion, spoke directly to the depths of our souls. She shared her deep connection to Africa, her ancestral roots, and her unwavering commitment to strengthening ties between Colombia and the continent. It was a truly transformative moment, as her speech evoked a surge of admiration and respect, prompting a spontaneous standing ovation.
The evening continued with a captivating showcase of Colombian music, skillfully performed by Angel Alexis Rios Valencia, Jossman Issacs Saac Grueso, Hendrix Hinestroza Mosquera, and Andris Padilla Julio. Their talent reverberated through every note, effortlessly bridging cultural boundaries and eliciting an overwhelming sense of unity.
The pinnacle of the event arrived with the presentation of “Kuridi en Doble Via.” Choreographed by the visionary Raphael Palacios, the performance seamlessly merged the talents of the Bomas Harambee Dancers from Kenya and the Kica group from Kibera. Their harmonious movements and synchronized expressions unveiled the profound beauty of cultural exchange, leaving an indelible imprint on our hearts and minds.
As the event drew to a close, we were treated to a private cultural dinner, where flavours from both Colombia and Kenya tantalized our taste buds. Conversations flowed, laughter echoed, and friendships were forged, solidifying the bond created during this extraordinary gathering.
In retrospect, “Kuridi en Doble Via” was more than an event; it was a transformative journey of cultural discovery and unity. The heartfelt speeches, soul-stirring performances, and genuine connections I experienced will forever hold a special place in my heart. This extraordinary occasion served as a poignant reminder of the power of art, music, and cultural exchange in bridging gaps and fostering a sense of global kinship.
As I left the event, my heart brimming with joy and my spirit uplifted, I carried with me the collective memories of an evening that will forever be in my heart.
