President Kenyatta to launch direct flights from Kenya to New York
President Uhuru Kenyatta will be at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on October 28 to officially launch Kenya’s direct flights to New York, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said on Sunday.
In a press briefing at State Lodge, Kakamega, said: “The President will be excited to join Kenyans at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to launch the first direct flight from Africa to New York.”
Kanze Dena said the direct flights are aimed at opening the country to more investors, tourists and strengthening the partnership with Kenya and the East African Community.
She further said that President Kenyatta in partnership with Kenya Airways will reward two Kenyan youth who have excelled in different fields with tickets to board the maiden flight.
The highly publicised trip will see Africa’s first female Dreamliner captain, Irene Koki fly President Kenyatta in the inaugural flight.
At the same time, the State House spokesperson confirmed that President Kenyatta will lead this year’s Mashujaa Day at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County

All Israeli airlines to stop flying from 2019 due to security concerns
Israel’s leading airline El Al warns that all Israeli airlines will stop flying from Jan. 1, 2019 because of security concerns abroad, a local newspaper reported Sunday.
The surprising announcement was made by Eli Dapas, El Al chairman, in his urgent letter to the deputy head of Israel’s National Security Council and the director general of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
All flights would be halted because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not intend to continue employing security guards worldwide, Dapas said in the letter.
According to Dapas, the director-general of the Foreign Ministry recently sent him a letter saying the ministry won’t employ security workers anymore at foreign airports since Jan. 1, 2019, as no agreement has been reached with these employees.

IATA Senior Management Appointment
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that Karen Clayton will join IATA as the Association’s Corporate Secretary effective April 2019.
Clayton comes to IATA from Air New Zealand where she has held the role of General Counsel and Company Secretary since 2016.
As Corporate Secretary, Clayton will ensure the integrity of IATA’s governance framework, including management of the Association’s Board of Governors and its various committees. The IATA Board of Governors is elected by the Association’s 290-strong membership and consists of CEOs from 31 airlines and IATA’s Director General and CEO.
As a member of IATA’s Strategic Leadership Team, Karen will also support the Director General and CEO with advice and input on IATA’s strategic plans and industry initiatives.
Karen will take over IATA’s Corporate Secretary role from Paul Steele who is currently IATA’s Corporate Secretary and Senior Vice President for Member and External Relations. When Karen joins IATA in April 2019, Steele will focus on strengthening IATA’s advocacy activities in his continued role as Senior Vice President for Member and External Relations.
