Chef Kurt was born in South Africa, Johannesburg. Chef Kurt has accumulated over 18 years of professional culinary experience. He found his calling to cuisine as early as 6 years old while watching his grandmother creating culinary magic at her home kitchen and since then he began to develop his passion to gastronomy. After receiving a National Senior Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Studies in Cape Town, South Africa at the age of 18, Chef Kurt worked his way up through some prestigious establishments in countries like South Africa, Seychelles and Maldives.
Chef Kurt gained a lot of profound knowledge in distinguishing cultures and cuisines at these countries and his passion and interest in cooking have enabled him to embark on a journey of lifelong learning and growing, through the varied and diverse nature of his food and consumer needs. Chef Kurt’s philosophy to food and cooking style are comforting, natural and creative. He believes that healthy eating has always been about enjoying everything in a balanced way.
As a part of his character Chef Kurt is continually striving for the highest of standards and at his current position he is focused on creative cooking skills and food knowledge for his team by evolving the fine dining concept & comfort food at the Fairview
Hotel which will bring high quality ingredient for hotel guests and visitors. When he’s not working, Chef Kurt is browsing through culinary books, cooking at home, taking artistic food shots, thinking about his next tattoo, gardening in the backyard with his bonsai trees and spending time with his fiancée, Vanda, and their cat, Turtle.
